Delta VFD-EL Drive Model Number Guide: Power, Voltage and Phase Codes Decoded

Delta VFD-EL model numbers, decoded

A Delta VFD-EL part number such as VFD015EL21A reads as: 1.5 kW, 230 V single-phase-capable input, EL series. The digits after VFD give the power (015 = 1.5 kW, 022 = 2.2 kW, 037 = 3.7 kW), the two digits after EL give the input class (21 = 230 V, 23 = 230 V three-phase, 43 = 460 V class three-phase), and the trailing letter is a hardware variant marking. The table below decodes every VFD-EL drive we stock, with a link to each listing.

How to read the part number

  • VFD: Delta's drive prefix.
  • Power digits: hundreds of watts. 002 is 0.2 kW, 004 is 0.4 kW, 007 is 0.7 kW, 015 is 1.5 kW, 022 is 2.2 kW, 037 is 3.7 kW, 040 is 4.0 kW, 055 is 5.5 kW.
  • EL: the series, Delta's compact sensorless-vector general-purpose drive.
  • Input code: 21 for 230 V with single-phase input support, 23 for 230 V three-phase input, 43 for the 460 V three-phase class used on 380 V and 460 V systems.
  • Trailing letter (A, W): a hardware variant marker. Match the full string when replacing; the listing you order must carry the identical model code.

Delta lists the VFD-EL family, together with the newer VFD-EL-W, on its official AC motor drive page. Full manuals and parameter references for every variant are in the Delta download center; search the exact model there for the matching PDF.

Power and input values from the listing specifications, verified October 2026. Where a listing title does not state power, the value follows the power-code rule described above.

Choosing between the 21, 23 and 43 input codes

Match the input code to your supply, since the code is what the drive was rated and tested for. A 230 V cabinet fed from single-phase power takes a 21-code drive, which is also the common choice for small machines on wall outlets or single-phase distribution. A 230 V three-phase supply takes a 23-code drive. Industrial 380 V and 460 V systems take the 43 class. Swapping one input class for another is not a substitution: a 230 V drive will not survive on a 380 V supply.

Power can step up or down within reason if the motor load allows it, but the mechanical ratings change with it, so the safest replacement is the same power code as the failed unit. When you are unsure, send the full model code from the drive label and the motor rating, and we will confirm the match before you pay.

Checks before you swap the drive

  • Photograph the drive label and the wiring terminals before removing the old unit; the model code, supply marking and terminal positions all matter when the new drive goes in.
  • Note the motor nameplate current. The replacement's rated output current should meet or exceed it at the same voltage class.
  • Keep the keypad and the parameters. If the old drive was tuned for the machine, record the key parameters before decommissioning; the Delta manual for your variant (download center link above) lists the parameter groups.
  • If the drive failed with a noisy or shorted output stage, check the motor cable insulation too; a failing motor can take the replacement with it.

Frequently asked questions

What does 43 mean on a Delta VFD-EL model number?

It marks the 460 V three-phase input class, which is what you order for 380 V and 460 V industrial supplies. 21 and 23 codes are 230 V drives and must not be connected to a 380 V supply.

Can a VFD022EL43A replace a VFD022EL21A?

No. The power matches (2.2 kW) but the input class does not: 43 is the 460 V three-phase class while 21 is the 230 V class with single-phase input support. Connect each drive only to the supply class in its code.

Is the VFD-EL series still available?

Yes. Delta's current product page lists both the VFD-EL family and the newer VFD-EL-W. For a replacement in an existing cabinet, order the same model code as the failed unit rather than migrating series mid-repair.

How fast do you ship and what is the warranty?

Every listing ships worldwide (DHL, UPS, TNT, FedEx, EMS) with a 1-year warranty. Email your model codes and quantities and we confirm stock and delivery time in one reply.
